Disappointing coverage of Saorview on Today FM Matt Cooper show today.

Contributor claimed that since 86% (his figure) of households had either Sky or UPC, that Saorview would only be relevant for those without Sky or UPC.

Of course this line of thinking assumes every tv in the house is hooked up to Sky or UPC, which is not always (rarely) the case.

Not sure how many single STB SKY or UPC homes exist, but for those that only have one STB, it wont be acceptable if the second or third tv in the home is no longer of use for Irish terrestial channels.

I'd imagine that figure could include the UPC analogue service too though. Analogue cable seems to be a very "normal" service for anyone I know. But UPC offer sweet all suport for it.

    My analysis suggests:
80% have pay TV, but 50% of Households use a Terrestrial Signal.

On Monday RTE also quoted that.

Once the word gets out that Saorview is FREE and available, and FREEsat is FREE, and that there are NO subscriptions, I think that 80% figure will change.

And if you have $ky, all you do is change the box ..........

Podcast of the discussion is available here http://media.todayfm.com/podcasts/popup -> Listen Back tab -> The Last Word with Matt Cooper -> Thursday -> Part 2 -> 21.00 mins (duration approx 12 mins).

Adrain Weckler Tech. Editor SBP, David McRedmond TV3 Chief Executive, Kevin Dawson RTÉ Head of Corporate Communications.

Not a bad discussion, have heard worse e.g. Adrain Weckler twice late last year on RTÉ's Drivetime, Tina Leonard with Pat Kenny on his radio show and a certain Mr Kennedy (siliconrepublic) on Donegal local radio. All reported here on the boards last year.

Hard to listen to the crap from TV3's McRedmond. If they have a problem with the RTÉ channels they can apply for some of the upcoming spare capacity on the PSB muxes. Their owners Doughty Hanson probably have more cash than the whole Irish state. Also complaining about the high transmission and distribution costs they will have to pay on DTT which may in reality work out cheaper than one channel analogue.

Er.. all you have to do is cancel the sub.

We have sub free Sky HD box (BBC red button) on a DTT telly (RTE button when it launches), PC media centre with 4x tuners for recording.

The TodayFM site does not make it easy. Here is a recording of the relevant piece of the show: http://www.mediafire.com/?j71b4co473jt41s
