    Guys

I have been asked to redesign a website.

The problem is as described in the heading.
Designer has left the country and can't/won't be contacted by email or telephone.
Very unprofessional of someone to leave without passing on the details of the .ie domain name passwords etc to a client.

I know Companies hire people to build websites and don't want to know the details but a professional should give them their details when they know they won't be around any longer to update.

I can get web space easily of course but needing the dns details of the .ie domain to redirect, I am stuck with a week to get things done.

What do I do/advise to the company to get the details of their .ie domain back into their records?

The IEDR will have a record of their domain name registration so it may only require a fax on headed notepaper from the owner of the domain to transfer the domain to the new hoster. The details of how to do it are in the IEDR's FAQ (questions 25-27):

    jmcc...thanks for that info.

I will pass that on to the owners.

That is assuming of course that the .ie domain name is currently registered in the owners name & not the previous designer's. Otherwise the IEDR will be having none of it.

Do a WHOIS query on the domain to find out.

This is very true and it's surprising how many times it happens.
