    Hi

anyone else notice a hike in VRT recently

last week printed off a vrt quote for an 08 BMW 5-series, around €3500, kept the print out, OMSP of €22,000

go to get the car today, VRT is €3900 based on nearly €24000 OMSP

Have we not reached a time when the Irish people stopped getting ripped off !

could be a case of supply and demand.
theres a good shortage of good 2008,2009 second hand cars out there for sale at the moment and currently keeping the prices of the good ones high.

if you have a clean, straight FSH 08 BMW or similar, you can afford to wait for the right buyer now and not take the first offer that comes at you ;)

VRT hasnt gone up, the percentage is still the exact same...

according to OPs post, the OMSP has risen... not the VRT rate

A question worth asking here is: who determines the OMSP ?

Just checked something I've been keeping an eye on and the VRT quote for a 2009 registration has decreased slightly since Jan but the quote for a 2010 reg has increased.

I think it is based on data supplied by the SIMI to Revenue.

I'd love to know! I remember checking a few cars last year and if it had actually been possible to buy them in Ireland for the quoted omsp I would have been delighted!

    Unless OMSP is minus VRT?

I know, but they raise the OMSP to make more money when they feel like it, or as was said, the demand for a particular model goes up.

Didnt some one here that knows their stuff say that the more enquiries that are made for a particular model of car the more the OMSP goes up. I remember it was said in another thread.

People say that all the time on here - I still don't believe it

Just had another look there at several variants of a model I'm keeping a watch on. For a 09 reg, all have had their VRT quote drop 0.95% since Jan. For 2010 reg, all have gone up 4% since Jan.

I wonder could it be anything to do with Revenue advertising recently for advice on a new computerised 'real time' OMSP system?

But is that not correct - if demand for a model increases, surely its selling price (i.e. OMSP) will too?

Often seen it said here, never with evidence. Reckon it's a crock of **** TBH.

Print off pages from car sites with 08 5 series and appeal it if they are less then the quoted OMSP.
