Alternative use for Dublin Bikes

I was passing by Mountjoy square a few days ago, and looked on to the hard court here. A woman in about her fifties was doing laps of the courts on one of the Dublin bikes, there is a stand of them located on the other side of the square. I had never seen them being used like this before, has anyone else maybe seen them being used in the Phoenix park? I thought it was fantastic, despite it not being a great place to be cycling, it obviously was encouraging someone who might not have been on a bike in years to give it a go again. Next up she might tackle taking a spin on the road!

3 weeks ago or so I spotted a guy with a plain cycling jersey and track suit bottom doing laps in the phoenix park.

How about a Dublin Bikes criterium series in the park. The do it in London with Bromptons, you'd have to have a briefcase in the basket & wear a tweed jacket. Only mod allowed is clipless pedals. Think it could be done???

This was suggested a few weeks ago. I'm all for it. The limited and easy nature of the gearing would be a great leveller.

It could include a bit of off-road to make it interesting

This would be epic!!! Has this been done anywhere else? If not I could defiantly see it catching on.

I did quite a bit of work for An Post a few years back and noticed they have huge amounts of old post bikes at all their delivery offices. I thought then it would be great to have a crit series using those bikes, the comedy factor would be epic!

Only thing is, same for Dublin Bikes - can you imagine the carnage if there was a pile up....bikes that weigh half a tonne, baskets, lights the works, def need the Order of Malta on hand!
