Which one is better? The jessica geleration is advertised as up to four weeks scratch free and the shellac is two weeks. I've heard that shellac is really good for your own nail strength. Anybody have experience on either or know anything? They're the same price...

I have got the Jessica Geleration one done 2 weeks ago yesterday. It still looks ok but I think i will get it removed early next week as the edges are beginning to lift and my nails grow so fast it looks like only 3/4 of my nail was painted!
I really want to know the difference in them also and If anyone thinks the shellac is better?

Also, does anyone know anywhere in saggart/Tallagh/Lucan area that does them for a reasonable price?

I had the Jessica one done in February and my nails are still in bits. I had it done in Drogheda and I had the polish removed in Donegal. In fairness I did leave it on over three weeks so maybe it is my own fault. They could not actually get it to come off in the salon in Donegal, I spent 45 minutes in there. It eventually wore off and my nails cracked and broke the whole way down. I have no nails at the minute...dont think my nails have ever been so short or non existent in my life. I dont know if the Shellac one is any better but I am really reluctant to try anything like this again. My nails are normally strong and grow well so I think that when they finally recover I will just do them myself..

They are the same formulas just different brands, like generic medicine

I get shellac done quite regularly it lasts me 3 weeks, i'm able to remove it myself usually. I'm recommending it to everyone my nails have never been stronger and they look 'freshly manicured' for 3 weeks.

Oh......never heard of this jessica manicure...do tell.... good/bad/last well/crack much?! Are there a lot of places around Dublin that do it? How much is it?

I've been on before about the Shellac - similar to C-J, I get three weeks odd out of it (depends on who does it for some reason). I've just taken mine off last night and my nails look all nekkid! :p

I've had the Shellac a few times and never again. It rarely lasted more than a week and my nails were in bits afterwards for over a month. I went to different places thinking maybe I just got a bad manicurist. Same thing with a friend of mine.

Funnily enough I used to get the 3 week manicure in BT a few years ago and that didn't destroy my nails at all (and lasted just over 2 weeks). I'm sure the product is very similar. I couldn't afford to keep that up though.

I get French manicure colour Shellac done in my local salon. It's great, I always get complements on it. I do have long nails so I suppose it's easier to look better. Because my nails are long though, after the two weeks I can see tiny cracks from my nails bending at the sides, but from far away it still looks good. Occasionally a corner of my nail has snapped underneath which obviously takes off the colour too and then it kinda lifts off some of the rest because the seal is broken. I suppose that's not the Shellac's fault though!

    I love it anyway!

Never had the Jessica Geleration done, but I am in love with Shellac. My hands wouldn't be overworked, by any stretch of the imagination, and I would get at least two weeks out of Shellac. I never noticed any difference in my nail condition. They didn't become weak, or flake on me.

And it was easily removed with a little bit of acetone.

I will say though, Jessica nail polish in general. I wouldnt be a fan. I find that the likes of rimmel does just as good a job, and stays on better. I find that Jessica starts to "shrink" on the nail after about a day.

    Much prefer O.P.I

I agree! I got the shellac last year on my toes before I went on holidays and after five days it had chipped and the clear gloss on my toes started to tun yellow! I don't know if it was the sun cream that turned the colour or the sun but whatever it was it looked disgusting. When I got home I went to get them removed and it took there girl over an hour and even then there were still bits that she couldn't remove- never again!!

Dont often reply to threads, a bit of a lurker but... had the shellac done early April and never again. Yes for two weeks (prob could have got longer) my nails looked like salon finish... went back to salon to have varnish removed and my nails have been in such bad condition since.. are actually cracking half way down. For everyones info my nails were in great condition beforehand and i cry ;) when i look at them now...

I had my last Shellac done 3 weeks ago and my nails are still perfect. I was advised to take it off and spend a week using a nail strengthener every day to stop them from breaking. im going to take mine off next week, give them a weeks break and then get them re done for a wedding. i'll let you know how i get on

I got the shellac French manicure done and it lasted me 3 weeks bar the odd little chip that was really unnoticeable. I was expecting my nails to be in trrrible condition after getting it removed as they are weak enough as it is. They were fine though, and actually grew alot while the polish was on. I just put strengthener on them for a week after removal and they're ready to get second set done now.
I'm surprised at Jessica nails bringing put a product that damages your nails. I thought the whole ethos behind the Jessica brand was strengthening the nails through salon treatments and (expensive) Jessica products to use between treatments!

I was just looking there and the Shellac website says "no nail damage". Mine look pretty dry underneath from the growth i can see but the majority of my nails feel quite strong.

i've got a wedding soon so i'm going to take mine off probably tonight and give it a bit of time with some nail strengthener (as recommended by a therapist friend).
