Aer Lingus baggage drop

This might be a bit of a cheeky question but if, for example, your check in suitcase was one or two (or 3 or 4) kilo's overweight, could you self check in and do the baggage drop and no one would be aware that your suitcase was that little bit heavier?

Is there a flaw to my plan?

If it's a self service tag and drop desk, then there's no escaping the charge as it's automated. If it's a drop desk with a real live person they will probably charge you for it.
