    Hi all,

I would like to know what "Hot Top" is actually made up of?
Hot Top is in tablet or power form and acts as an insulated reservoir on top of an ingot mold that retains heat and holds excess molten metal that is drawn into the ingot as it shrinks..

I have used Hot Top in the past when casting bigger molds that needed the metal to stay hot and liquefied for longer in order to fill out the mold fully.. however i never actually tool the time to fully understand what hot top was made up of..

can anyone point me in the right direction to find what properties are used to make up Hot Top?

    Many Thanks

    H
