Years ago when I cycled home to see the family I went the back roads from town to Kill- it took forever thanks to winding roads and many hills. I'm wondering what the quickest way would be for me to get there. Is it possible to cycle the dual carraigeway there? It's not a motorway but I'm not sure I've ever seen someone cycle on it.

If you are allowed cycle on it what's the etiquette- stick to the hard shoulder?

From Wikipedia this is what much of the roadway looks like:

I used to head out to Kill regularly.
1 don't take the Naas road. Just mad imo.
    2 Tallaght - Saggart - Newcastle - Steelstown - Kill.
Lovely cycle. One tough climb caled Windmill Hill between Newcastle & Steelston. 1km mostly 8-11%.
Good road surface on very quiet roads. Runs parallel to the motorway.
3 from Northside. Lucas Celbridge back roads between Lyons Estate and Straffan. Great cycling but winding roads and many sharp ramps.
The sagaart route is more direct and easier.
