I may have the opportunity to get a 2003 model of this for almost nothing. It's had one owner, has recently had alternator and cambelt done and has a full service history. Mileage is very reasonable, the spec of the car is great and performance is good and it looks the part (it's the 3 door model). While there have been issues (EGR valve has been changed, issues with engine management lights, head lamps needed replacing) - there hasn't been anything that has been really costly to have done.

Am I bonkers for considering this?

Fine engine, fine car. What's almost nothing?

He has it up for sale for £1,300, would sell it to me for £900 - could perhaps get him down to £700. Fiat cars are anathema to people in Northern Ireland (he literally cannot get shot of this thing.

    Jesus for £700 it's a complete bargain.

Probably €600 ish VRT, I imagine the OMSP would be €2500/€3000?

They are a great car and with a particularly good engine too (115bhp that is). Some versions are only 85bhp and they obviously are not as quick, so just make sure the one you are being offered is in fact 115bhp.

Also make sure that the airbag light comes on and goes out. If it is staying on, the seatbelt loom under the drivers seat is number1 suspect ;) If the light doesn't come on then expect the bulb has been removed on foot of the above

Downside is the roadtax @ 2ltr rates....:(

I've had a 1.2 Stilo for the past two years, I got it for half nothing too and to be honest it's a grand car. They're a good size inside and when you fold the back seats down you can fit some amount of stuff in them. They're nothing special to drive, the one I have is nippy enough around town if you rev the nuts off it but dies on the motorway, the diesel shoud be much better though. I have that airbag light problem which is a bit annoying but I can live with it. I wouldn't buy one for any sort of significant money but if you're getting it that cheap then you can just drive it till it breaks
