In a final two fingers gesture to the people of Ireland, FF and the Greens are trying to amend legislation to make ISPs enacting their own three strikes rules legal.
THE OUTGOING Government is considering putting through amendments to Ireland’s copyright regime before it leaves office to ensure the State is compliant with European legislation.

Last November, UPC, an internet service provider (ISP), scored a victory over several music labels when the High Court ruled ISPs were not liable for a customer’s illegal downloading.

However, the judge noted a gap in legislation meant Ireland was not complying with European law, as disconnections in relation to illegal downloads could not be enforced.
European law says the exact opposite of what the judge claims, and the European Parliament has several times ruled out extrajudicial three strikes laws, so as usual FF and the Greens are talking nonsense and taking backhanders.

Bury these people in a hole so deep tomorrow that they'll never again see the light of day.

Probably have the likes of Eircom in their ear, justifying their stance on the subject.

If this goes through, there is potentially little we can do about it.

Legislation has been struck out plenty of times before. Still it should never reach that stage. Email campaigns, I suppose it all helps. The best thing that can be done is to utterly wipe them out at the ballot box for now though, laws from a mandateless government have no standing.

Isn't downloading the Green thing to do? No packaging or anything needed,no fuel to bring it to the shops or for customers to travel there to buy said cd's/dvd's.
Didn't the outgoing government in the UK force through similar legislation? That made no difference over there and was overturned afaik.
