Those of you from Galway West, do you think Frank Fahey will get elected this time around?

Paddy Power has him 8th in the field, at 4/1, so I think it's time for Frank to think about spending more time with his property.

Not a notion, I said the same to him in the front door over Christmas and he knew well himself.

I saw a number of his billboards defaced this morning on the way into work, the slogan read "Frank Out"! I wonder who is targeting his posters.

It is fortunate that he has his property empire to fall back on. And if his predictions about the market bottoming out in 2009 are accurate, he'll be fine.

Seems all his effort with the Outer Bypass has just resulted in people bypassing him.

Labour to do well in Galway imo.

There's a similar dynamic to Galway West as there is to a few other constituencies eg Limerick City. The big shot former cabinet ministers, Willie O'Dea and O'Cúiv, will still get in on the basis of their local profiles, while their halfwit constituency colleagues will be hung out to dry without transfers or acknowledgment. Fahey though, unlike the hapless Peter Power in Limerick who's little more than a cipher, deserves to be punished for giving away our natural resources to Shell and for the Lost-At-Sea fiasco. Watching him crash and burn will be my Portillo moment.

I have to say I am looking forward to seeing his face when he gets the chop! Also, I can't wait to meet him in the street and tell him he got what he deserved!

Well he will get at least two families to vote for him, the two that benefitted most from the Lost at Sea scam.
    fahey is disengenious little sleeveen.
He did well for a guy that started as a teacher in Gort and he wasn't a minister for all that long either.
BTW did he resign that position ?

AFAIk, that position is still waiting for him and some luckless teacher will probably be thrown out on their ear to make way for his return.

Not true, he resigned his teacher position in 2009 under pressure and only this week announced he is giving his teacher pension to charity (whatever that means).

I don't understand how he got elected in 2007, very unlikely he'll get elected this time. Personally I think the only reason he is running is because he has overextended himself with his property interests, and needs a nice cushy job with expenses.

That will be highly enjoyable if/when it happens.
Other ecstatic moments for me would be Hanafin, the two Lenihans, O Rourke, Coughlan, Roche, Calleary and the big prize, O Dea (doubt it though)
Mind you, most will be well looked after by the dopey taxpayer.

I really don't see him getting in. Sure he doesn't even seem to be popular with those who will still be voting FF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 mgegan

Frank Fahey was 5/1 and moved to 4/1. Even though I dont have any time for the man he has a core vote and I think he will deliver on it.

Noel Grealish has not delivered for his area and people know that. And how short of memories have they? He is FF in disguise. He was part of the administration that ran this country into the state it is in now. His PD party were the ones of lax regulation, low tax and lazie faire economics. Nice man but all that is true. Like where is the Claregalway bypass?

Galway West could very well throw up a surprise. Catherine Connolly and Derek Nolan do not have a country vote and will be targeting the same vote in the City. Crowe and Fahy will divide the FF faithful in the City but Fahey has more of a country base.

O Cuiv and Brian Walsh will fill the first two seats.

It will be then a battle between the rest for the remaining seats with

Naughton or Healy Eames to get one
Connolly or Nolan to get one

and if the above 4 are all on an even keel and either Crowe or Fahy get eliminated then there is a chance of FF taking a second seat. I think that is a real chance.

    Good!

Hope fcukface fahey and crowe doesn't get in. Those two are bribing people with roads and the post. Hope people don't fall for it.

Looking forward to seeing the back of them.

There'll be two seats here for candidates of the left. Connolly will get in and Nolan too. Connoly has been canvassing in rural South Connemara and will get a large enough vote here from the gaeilgóirí and those who want change. This part of the constituency has been hit hard by unemployment and emigration, and many people won't be voting for FG for historic reasons. I think Connolly will pick up a good chunk and here and enough in the city to see her over the line, while Nolan will get most of Michael D's vote and enough transfers from Connolly and O'Clochartaigh to see him over the line. FG have really shot themselves in the foot knifing McCormack the way they did, they now have 4 cnadidates scrabbling in what is a limited pool for them and though they should get one over the line (probably F-HE) it's hard to see where the second one will get enough transfers from. O Cuiv is safe needless to say, and notwithstanding what that poster said above, I think Grealish has distanced himself sufficiently from the government over the issue of health cuts to save his seat.

Walsh to take the first FG seat. Healy-Eames is not popular within FG!

Yeah but people are aware of his past involvement with Anglo and his dabbling in property development. I'll take your word on Healy-Eames, thankfully I don't know much about the internal workings of FG :pac:

The irony of Fahey being a lock to lose and his former evictee (and election rival) Ming being tipped to win here in Roscommon shouldn't be lost on anyone..!

That poster is clearly below shoulder height on a footpath and is therefore dangerous to pedestrians. Call the Council's environment section on 091-536400 and tell them to ensure pedestrian movement not be restricted.
