hey im looking for a gaming laptop. im willing to stretch to a limit of €2000 for something really special. ive fallen out of the techie loop in the last 3-4 years so am not as tech savvy as i once was.

ideally its going to have to last about 2-3 years and still be capable of handling most things that are out at that stage.

as i said it will mostly be for gaming with the odd bit of movie watching thrown in aswell. does anyone have any suggestions, would be much appreciated.

Dell Ireland are not selling the mx17 R3 Sandy bridge version just yet though the R2 is quite good.

Alternatively, the Asus G73SW is a good competitor to the mx17x.

Ever though of building a gaming desktop and buying a Macbook Pro for example. Might hold its value better.

How can you tell if an M17x is r2 or r3?

I have one on the way.

buy a used M1730 from ebay or the like, with a X9000 CPU, 6 gigs of ram, 2 x hdds of your choice, 1900 x 1200 resolution and a swanky 9800GTX Sli with 2 Gigs of DDR 3 VRAM on board.

That would be a pretty expensive spec but would eat most laptops out there, and be cheaper than alienware.
