    Hi all,

will shortly be going to Germany for a few months and am looking into buying a TV out there to ship back to ireland at the end of my stint. Do any tecchies on here know what the compatibilty issues would be (MPEG-4 etc)? I will look at a smallish 1080p LCD, so if there are any reccomendations along those lines, I would be grateful.

Also, I may look into a PS3 / Wii thingy as well, specifically for the Blu-Ray. Again, would there be compatibilty issurs?

    Don't bother.

In Analogue Era you would have brought back one where sound didn't work.

Buy TV intended for Irish Market.

The specification for compatibility is here at bottom of page (2 x pdfs). Basically Nordig + UK MHEG5.

    Summary spec
    MPEG4 (+ MPEG2) H.264 AVC Level 3 and Level 4
    DVB-T or DVB-T2
    MP2 and HE-AAC Audio
    MHEG5 UK profile.
Technically VHF as well as UHF tuner, though the VHF usage is unlikely.

Germany is not a particularly cheap place for retail. You will buy a properly compatible set online cheaper.

I may have to buy a telly in Germany anyway, so the price may not be an issue if I can bring it back.

Which PDFs are you referring to?

You could always buy one here and take it there, and then bring it back. If you are careful in which one you get, it will work there (mostly) and work here completely.
