taking it easy tomorrow (and off friday :D) so gonna run my scrap down in the trailer to scrap man. normally always go to the one place in belfast but my friend is now involved in the scrap business and keeps asking me to go to his dad so I priced around today to see which company has best price.

best price is coming in at £4,600 per tonne of dirty copper (brazing) which includes cylinders, £5,600 for clean copper (unused no fittings). Mates dad is coming in at £4,550 and £5,550 but hes far away from me. Turns out the place I normally go to which I thought from always pretty high is only £4,400 and £5,400. Even still.. been going there years and always get a bottle of vodka or whiskey for xmas :-) oh and they pay cash xD

have 4 cylinders and a load of cuttings, good bit of brass and few lead slates. hope to get about £400, guessing £420. Old man and I always guess to see how close we are :D Its always a nice surprise and a few extra pound in the pocket.

You are in an interesting part of the world. I use to use eastwood skips(The brother of barny eastwood- Barry mcGuigans manager) He would leave you a skip to fill with copper and then give you a better that price than anyone. Granted there would be about 5 ton in it before he would take it. But i had electricians and plumbers contributing. I use to strip down the electrical wire and the payout was much better than anyone.

In dublin there was 2 excellent places i used. One was mullens on the south side and the other P&D metals beside phisboro..

I dont know the prices but if you want to see money accumalute start keeping all your brass nuts..

tell you what I have most of, more than nuts... radiator tails :-) and 8mm/10mm compression reducing sets that come in the myson trv boxes. always get stuff you don't need/use to keep it. I've old storage tanks in the lockup I keep filling.

I used to keep boilers and rads and then take them away - maybe got 50quid here and there for them but it soon dropped to £20 so now my mate just collects them for me, handier for me and gets rid of it for the customer.

Sparks should keep their wire cutings and melt the plastic off it, Big money in it!

we were just talking about this today in the job, we would have a lot of off cuts of cable that we cant sell. does it have to be bare copper, or will they take it with the pvc still on it. cable is getting more exspensive everyday, like petrol it goes up but never comes down.

they will take it with plastic on the wire but you won't get anywhere near the good value for it. take it home and strip it yourself.. you will get a packet! clean wire is one of the easiest things to flog, a little bit here and there soon adds up to some weight.....
