...even if you only know them to salute. I mean, the technology is there to be used. What would you think if a guy mailed you and joined the dots of how you recognise/know each other.

For example, if there was someone you saw all the time, knew their name, but never actually spoke to them, only saluted them, but had the hots for them.

Would it be acceptable in this day and age to mail them on Facebook. Could it be seen as sleazy. Something makes me not want to do it for fear of looking like a complete tit, something else makes me want to just go for it, but I know I'd work it wrong. I'd probably just say "Hi, you saluted me last weekend in such and such a place". I wouldn't know how to elaborate, things have to be worded carefully I think...

    Any opinions?

It depends, have you any mutual friends on facebook? If you do you could probably send him a friend request, and if he asks just say "oh yeah I saw that you know so-and-so and you looked familiar." A lot of people do this anyway so it wouldn't be a big deal and it wouldn't look like you would've searched for him specifically.

Otherwise, I'd be inclined to say no. It might look a bit creepy to him if you have no friends in common and it's clear that you searched for him intentionally. Does he know your name? Is there a chance that he'd actually remember you?

Seriously, there are so many of these same type queries on PI these days - FB has alot to answer for:rolleyes:

Just message her OP. What have you got to lose exactly? Say 'hi, I'm that guy from xxx' What is the worst than can happen?

    Life is too short.

In the past 3 months i've had 2 guys come up to me in nightclubs/pubs telling me they recognised me from 2 different cities where i used to live, one guy i'd never seen before in my life, the other i did know to see, i found it quite flattering tbh! If its any help to you these guys just came up to me and said are you from x place you look really familiar? and we got talking from there! its a great chat up opportunity actually!

Definitely send him/her a message, life's far too short. Personally i'd be flattered :). The worst thing that happens is they don't reply! and if they do happy days! Facebook is always throwing up suggestions of people you might know anyway so i wouldn't think it odd even if you don't have friends in common, good luck OP!

A few years back it was threads on asking for advice on asking people out by text message.
This forum has moved with the times :)

Just send a quick and short message OP, if you know them around to salute and you're both locals, that's enough.
    You're not complete strangers

Personally, I'd prefer this approach to Mr Blankety Blank profile who tried to add me earlier this week. Such effort, so creepy. Mail her.

I really, really hate Mr Blankety Blank. Especially when you hit accept by accident and then have to do the whole awkwardness of deleting him. :(

I'd send her a message, OP, its not like you're a total randomer.

I have never actually spoken to the person, only saluted, that's the problem I guess.
If a woman sent me a random email on FB saying she saw me the previous weekend, etc. I wouldn't think anything of it, but women are strange creatures, who knows what they think!
    I guess I should go for it shouldn't I..........

OP, how do you know this person's name? Does she/he know your name?

If it was me, then your request would be ignored.

Why not walk up to the person next time you see them and start a conversation. Go for a coffee or something and maybe then send a message over facebook.

I think you've got it backwards.

If she got to go for the coffee then she would hardly need to send a message on facebook.
The whole point of the facebook message is to hopefully get the coffee meeting.

I think I might wait till I see her again, then see if there can be any bit of chat, and then add her on FB, that way I can get the ball rolling without actually having to physically see her all the time...

From previous experience, I have to say, I wouldn't recommend it.
