How to make it up to her

    Hi all,

Looking for a small bit of advice. I am getting married in a few months and one of my best friends is getting married a few weeks before me. We don't live in the same county but she is godmother to my daughter ( a brilliant one at that ) and comes down every birthday, christmas and other times throught out the year and is having her as flower girls at her wedding (the cuteness of it:) ). She's one of those friends that I've had since I was 5 and no matter how far apart we are when we meet up its like we were never apart and have a good catch up. I'd trust the woman with my life.

    Thats the back history part.

Today I have found out that she is having her hen the same weekend that I have something else on so I can't make the hen. I can't break this other thing I have on as it has been settled with a while and I have commitments at it so there's no way I can not attend it.

I've told my friend and of course she's totally fine about it (it's me that feels crap) as she'll be home the week before the wedding and we can go out then but I feel so bad about missing her hen. If I could have it any other way I'd go and was really looking forward to it, it's just sods law that it clashes with something else. She'll have a ball anyway as all the rest of the girls are going but I think I need to do something to make it up to her for missing her hen of all things as I know she'll definitley come to mine.

Any ideas? Or am I over dramatising it and should just leave it alone?

    Thanks and be nice;)

    ;)

    I think you're overthinking it.

She's obviously a close friend, and it's going to be a pain missing the hen - but life sometimes gets in the way of these things.

I might suggest ringing the venue and arranging a bottle or 2 of champagne if you know where the party is going? They might attach a "sorry I couldn't make it" card if you send it to them. Dunno - just a thought.

PS I'm a man. Feel free to disregard any or all of the above as applicable. :pac:

Why not arrange to leave something in her room as a surprise?

A few years back I photographed a wedding, I found out the night before my cousin would be there, her boyfriend being best man was given the envelopes of people to pay the night before so she text me to let me know. Anyway, unfortunately our Nanny passed away the morning of the wedding. My cousin attended the ceremony but found it too much and left, she arranged for some gifts to be left in the bridal suite. When we made it up there for photos the bride and groom were delighted with it all, just a few small tokens, chocolates, petals for the bed, things like that, but it was such a thoughtful gesture and especially considering the circumstances of the morning it meant such a huge amount to them! She always was a very thoughtful girl!

If she wasn't fine about it, you would have felt it from her. And you say she was fine about it, so try to stop panicking! I know I would probably be the exact same as you though.
The ideas above are lovely, or when you meet her maybe you two could have a pamper day, make it really special.

I would not worry. Im sure she understands & would probably be more upset if you could not make the wedding. In the bigger picture, the hen is not that important in my opinion anyway!

ah thanks everyone. i knew in my "level" head that i was over thinking it altogether just good to bounce it off a few people. she is totally fine about is she's the best in the world and she understands.

i think i'll ring the hotel ahead though when i get the details and order a bottle of champers or something on me just so she knows i'm thinking of them all off having a ball:D

    thanks everyone

    *and exhale..lol

Could you put together a little photo album of the two of you growing up?
You could include photos of ye as kids, teenagers etc & leave a few pages blank for the wedding photos which she can add to herself.
You could ask the hotel to include this with a bottle of champaign & it's something she will always have.

    Well get cracking so!
Most photo shops can copy old photos so you can keep the original.

Oh the album is a lovely idea. Also at one wedding I covered the chief bridesmaid and the bride sounded very much like yourself and your friend, the chief bridesmaid read out a lovely poem she wrote for the bride which had everyone laughing and in tears at the same time! If you could manage something like that you could include it with champers and a photobook.
