youtube on iPhone problem

Hey,

A few days ago I discovered that YouTube videos won't load on my iPhone 3gs, be it on the app or through Safari. It just displays "movie format not supported". It has worked fine for the last 6 months, and I don't think I changed any settings.
Incidentally the same thing happened to my wifes iPhone too....
Any ideas?

Yes I have noticed this too on my iPhone 4, not sure what the issue is...

Yup I've noticed this too on both my iPod tough 2g running 4.1 and on my iPad running 3.2.

I've noticed that the same happens with video podcasts available on itunes that once worked perfectly.

Yep, having the same issue, only happens now and again though!

Having the same problem. Was grand on jb 4.0.1. Once upgraded to 4.2.1 and re jb problems started. Can stream videos on MiTube that won't show on YouTube app or embeded on boards.

Here's a link to O2 Forum. Same problem seems to be widespread. Strange though can't see it cropping up in any other country ( didn't look too in-depth ).

Suggestion that YouTube are updating seems reasonable.

True but it doesn't explain why videos on podcast are also having the same issue.

same issues. when I connect to Wifi the video plays fine but over the 3G network it wont.....

Having this problem myself and searched a few forums but have seen nothing recent about this issue.

There seem to be a couple of similar problems dating back years to jailbroken devices but none with a conclusive solution.

Surely if youtube were updating their vieos, it would be a worldwide issue?

Yep same here, both myself and the lady. Happening about 2 weeks now. Very annoying.

I'm guessing its either a o2 or a jailbreak issue.

Ive a jailbroken 3GS on o2 and the girlfriend has an unbroken 4 on 3 network. Hers is running perfectly.

Is everyone who's having problems either jailbroken or on o2?

Yes it is an O2 problem, it's a thread over on their forum...

My words with friends app won't play over 3G either. Only on wifi.

Not impressed. :-( 

Who is your wifi provider?

I've had the same problem for weeks. I cleared my cookies and cache in safari settings and now it's back working perfectly. I couldn't find a solution anywhere online but this seems to work.
