Road tax - Pre 08 cars being brought into emissions system???

Should I be concerned about pre-08 cars being brought into the current emissions based road tax calculations? I have seen this commented on in another post.

I have a 03 forester turbo, tax now €620 (grrr), under new rules, €2000!!! I only drive 5k per year. As a green issue, I can see the point, as a revenue generator, it does not make sense. I will be dumping the forester for a €150 tax car if this comes in, so they lose my €470. I’m sure a lot of people will do the same.

Scrap road tax, put more tax on fuel to make it up. That way you pay road tax on usage.

I can bet that first answer will be stating that there is no such thing as road tax :P

When is this coming into effect? Mine will go up too in that case

They would have to do it in a way that allowed people to use the cheapest option (like they currently do for early 08 cars.) Too many older cars would go straight to the top rate of tax otherwise

    I really don't think so.

Unlikely my audi imported in 2008 from the UK which would be high rate at 2100 euro(is 551) has no co2 rating listed in the registration document, it is listed as 0:D (1.8 outputting 225bhp)

In any case they wont retrospectively introduce it, lets hope not anyway.
There has to be great value now in low capacity turbocharged old high performance cars from a road tax standpoint.

Just what the country needs devalue the vast majority of the cars currently on the road by imposing ridiculous levels of tax so no one can afford to drive them but can't sell them for a cheaper to tax alternative either?
