I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where we discuss our favourite books or dvd's for whatever discipline of hunting that we enjoy most. A sort of review of why we like it or maybe why we did not like a certain book/dvd.
Personally I am a book person and have many shelves filled with books ranging throughout the different branches of our sport. My favourite book would have to be Douglas Butlers Rough Shooting in Ireland. I find it offers advice without becoming a do this and don't do that type of book. The stories are also intriguing and gives a good insight into shooting in Ireland. My favourite dvd would have to be any of Chris Greens wildfowling or pigeon shooting dvds. They are insightful, enjoyable and also highly entertaining. I met the man at the CLA gamefair this year and he is a gentleman.

What is your favourite book/dvd and why?

Any book by Jim Corbett , G Kenneth Whitehead or Peter Capstick Hathaway, class reading , i read a really good book by Henry Tegner recently, i think he is responsible for setting up the British Deer Society, its a limited reprint of a 1930s book only 300 available its called "days with the deer", i would only watch a dvd once but i have books there that i have read five or six times over the years, i also have a thing for the New Zealand deer culler books,

The tom Varney fox calling DVD's are pretty action packed, lots of shot's and way less drawn out commentary/ advertising than in the warrener dvd's

i too read Douglas Butlers "rough Shooting in Ireland" and found it a great read.

i am now 3/4 the way through his new book "wild Duck & their pursuit" and find it excellent reading and has made me more eager to get out for more night flighting.
on a good point it's nice to see copies of a book on shooting on the shelves of waterstones!!!

brother got me Robert Bucknell's "foxing" dvd and i really learned alot and was enjoyable too.

Brian Plummer's "Tales of a rat hunting man"

A brilliant book for any good country lad growing up, made me buy my first terrier

    J A Hunter's "Hunter"

Fascinating insight into a world long gone of African plains game and tropthy hunting in the turn of the 20th century. Any of his books are very interesting and I often stayed up till 3am finishing one off. Also he was born bout 2 miles down the road from me in Scotland :)
