Travelling and working after Leaving Cert?

Hey! I'm thinking of deferring my college course (whatever one I manage to get) after the Leaving Cert, and taking a year out before college to go and work. I'm not really sure what I want to do with my life and would like to make some money and stuff before I go to college (or at least live independently a bit). Myself and my friend were looking at going to Germany. My German is...semi-fluent and his is quite fluent. Obviously we'll improve it before we go!

Anyone have any experience with this? We might just go the summer. What're the chances of being hired being so young and inexperienced? Even for some semi-skilled/unskilled job on a production line or something? Also, I'll be 17 until October (my friend will be 18 before summer in March), would that be a big problem?
