after 5 years of faffing about with a gamepad i think its time i got a remote seeing as i use my ps3 more for video files than games :)

is the oem one worth the premium or is there a decent aftermarket one at a good price?

I was the same until recently when I finally paid €20 (Gamestop) for the official Sony remote and Im very happy with it. So much easier turning on the console, browsing menus and playing DVDs/BDs.

Used to use the controller which was awkward for simple things and also tried a cheap IR remote which came with an IR dongle that plugged in one of the front USB ports. It worked well but couldnt turn on the console like the official one.
