Has anyone any ideas how to clean an EGR Valve and where abouts is it located on a 2.0TDI VAG, also what do I use to clean.

    i.e. WD40?

    WD40?
Well, on a Bugatti Veyron they are located down the back left of the engine.....

    Lesson 1: Be more specific:p

Are they actually worth cleaning or liable to give trouble again shortly?

Mines a 04 Fiesta 1.4 TDCI, with I believe a mechanical valve (as opposed to electric, I think?).

    TIA

Them ones don't really give trouble.

Maybe try clean the contacts first on the plug. Is the engine light on? I've only replaced a hand full of the 1.6 TCDI ones but none of them 1.4TCDI ones that I can remember, never seen one go.

    MIL is on, yes.

Which plug are you referring to?

The one going on the EGR valve, maybe its corroded, clean it out and see.

There seems to be at least 2 kinds.
I got my MIL fault diagnosed as 'EGR valve open' or something similar & the garage wanted to change it.
They informed me it was the non-electrical one & my own checking re. the chassis no. seems to bear this out.
Haven't got a chance to look at it yet & car is still running fine.

My father has an early Fiesta 1.4TDCi and its EGR is vac actuated.

    use thishttp://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_160294_langId_-1_categoryId_212538
let it soke in for while. i just left the egr in an old bucket and pored this over it till it was covered, left it to soak for half an hour then used an old toothbrush to scrub it
