    STOP PLAYING THE SAME SONGS!!

It would be nice to hear something other than 'That's Entertainment' by The Jam, 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Joni Mitchell and 'Midnight Train To Georgia' by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Do RTE lock the music library after 8pm or something?

    He has 'stacks' of songs.

Don't be slaggin' John now, gets a bit tetchy when he is not adored by the listening public, fancies himself as a bit of a heavyweight in broadcasting.

    fancies himself.

it's pretty common amongst djs to do that though isn't it. I remember a few years back, the Fenton fellah used play The Kooks - She Moves in Her Own Way every day, sometime between 1.00pm and 1.30pm for about a year and a half, very annoying, especially if that's your lunch time and you have no choice what's on the dial.

It's a shame...Creedo has a golden opportunity to give Irish artists exposure that they wouldn't normally get otherwise, especially as the show can be listened to worldwide.

But no, tonight's show we will have Santana, Paul Simon, The Style Council, Joan Armatrading, James Taylor, Carole King, Bruce Springsteen, Buena Vista Social Club...

Oh Fenton's the king of it... especially if its Van the man, U2 or Thin Lizzy (a.k.a. "Philo and the boys"). Didn't he open the show with "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals a lot too?..

I'm not a regular listener of Dave 'Let's Just Turn The Radio Up' Fanning, but when I do tune in guaranteed he will play the following:-

    Smashing Pumpkins-1979
    Radiohead-Pyramid Song
    Smog-Cold Blooded Old Times
    Marcy Playground-Sex and Candy
    Mercury Rev-Goddess On A Hiway

Isn't there some rule about the amount of times you can play certain records?

Doves - Pounding is guaranteed a blast pretty often too.

I remember when Adele released "Chasing Pavements" that Tony liked it so much, he played it straight away again! He's a gas man.

Since this thread has now turned into the 'What's Tony Fenton Playing At' thread, my turn...

I'll never ever forget when he played 'In My Place' by Coldplay, then shouted Smashie-and-Nicey style 'YEAH! THAT RRRRRRROCKS!', as if he had just played Slayer! Then said 'the video's great too, Chris Martin and the boys rocking out!' For those who have never seen the video for 'In My Place' it is the MOST BORING MUSIC VIDEO EVER MADE. It's so boring, I can't even be bothered posting a link to it.

    ...
    Smashing Pumpkins-1979
    ...

so true, and whenever he plays it he earnestly tells us that, after serious consideration, it is surely the best song of the 90's, fascinating
your list needs some Nick Cave, also Midlake - Roscoe etc..

You should stay up & listen to Alf Mc Carthy. Now, he - is - the - man.............
Text him in a few suggestions - he will nearly always try his best to play them. He has a really varied selection

Does Steve Haze on Cork 96FM still play 'Africa' by Toto on repeat every day?

Used to love that song too... :(

I listen mostly to RTE Radio 1 and 2fm, and in doing so have become a big fan of Irish music - Aslan, Republic Of Loose, Jerry Fish, Pugwash, Something Happens...these bands would never ever get played on UK radio.

Leave John alone, I think he is one of the best DJ’s on RTE

I always enjoy the music selection, he always throws in nice mix of Latin/Cuban/Spanish and a bit of soul.

I can live with a bit of Jam on the side.
Last summer he was on about 7pm, I really liked that time slot. Nice music to unwind and cook the dinner.

When he was John Blake on ERI in Cork in the 80s he played really great music.

I haven't caught much of his current RTE radio show but the bits I heard sounded good though he comes across a little disinterested at times.
