Hey, just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a beginner mtb with a €500-600 budget, was looking at the carrera fury in halfords before christmas but it seems to have gone up to €710 :( now.

hey, from my expierence i'd advise you to stay away from Halfords, there stuff is not great quality and never put together properly, try your local bike shop, in this day and age they will be glad of the business and you should be able to haggle a fair bit, or have a look at the for sale/wanted section here,
    Good luck.

halfords are having a sale on their boardman range (their best bikes) this looks pretty nice, if i where you id also look at second hand as there are great bargains to be got there, go to adverts.ie, epicmtb.com, madmtb.com and post a wanted advert in their sales forum

Boardman bikes are top quality, good value and consistently score high in reviews.

The standard of Halfords bike mechanics is patchy.

most of the Dublin shops take one for all, not sure about Galway.

The prices of Carrera bikes regularly drop and i wouldnt be surprised if the price drops again in a few weeks. Keep an eye on their website.

Bikeradar.co.uk gives the Fury a very positive review btw.

as one poster said the Boardman bikes are on sale (on the web anyway) aso you could reserve one any pay for it with a voucher. More than good enough for a beginner.

Try get something with hydraulic brakes and a half decent fork. You might get something like a trek 4500 for that sort of budget. The Cycle Inn in Talllaght are very knowledgeable regarding MTBs so I'd recommend a trip in there.

    Support your local bike shop:):):)

I recently bought myself a MTB FELT q220 from them

They are solid bikes with top accessories and nice finishing.
Have a look at their website to have an idea about the price, and I think they take those vouchers as well.
I am not sure they have any branch in galway though

I better answer this over on the advert so as not to discuss it off thread.
