I've been in there from as early as 5.30am(around exam time). It won't have been cleaned from the day before and you'll have turned the lights on but you'll have the place to yourself for a good hour or so.

Walk in to the Arts block from the JH side and veer to the right. It's the big room with two set of double door on the right.

Did you ever notice the people who go in there, hang their coat on a chair, spread their books out on the desk, then immediately head off for lunch? Kind of like those infamous German tourists who leave towels on the deck chairs.

Waaaaaait wait wait wait wait wait wait... that room is supposed to be QUIET? For STUDY? It's normally only "reserved for (incredibly noisy) NUIM students". People who eat crisps and talk on their phones and have really loud whispered conversations instead of just stepping outside the door six steps away from them. People who set up their computers and then leave for three hours before coming back to check their facebook accounts and go off again, denying anyone else the use of a socket. I thought it was just a room to put the annoying people...

    :P

Maybe I'm just weird, but I never find the reading room that noisy/hard to study in! People don't usually talk that much in it in my experience, and I basically lived there last year.

Much prefer the common room tbh, the noise is somewhat soothing while studying

I'm not a fan of the quiet room either, the lack of windows puts me off for some reason. That and the fact that it gets very warm in there at times resulting in general drowsiness, tiredness, and falling asleep on desk-ness.

The most recurring thought in my head as I walk in the Reading Room, Library, or any other quiet-study type place:

    "STOP STARING AT ME."

The incessant humming noise from the air con puts me to sleep!!! I have to say I find it easier to study in somewhere where theres loads of noise which fades into the background than odd bursts of intrusions that wreck my concentration but thats just me!:D I find the library (not during exam time) the best place

I think for me if a place is supposed to be quiet, then even tiny noises wreck my head. Same in the library, a noise that wouldn't bother me in the common room bothers the hell out of me when it's supposed to be quiet. I do a lot of studying in the common room and arts block... it's like a train station effect, the noise becomes an odd sort of wall of background sound with nothing standing out to distract you. I expect it to be noisy so it doesn't bother me. In a quiet room, a person whispering really stands out to my ears.

Looking forward to spreading out at a table in the new canteen with a cup of tea, notes and books all over the place. I used to find the old canteen really great for studying.

I'll probably use the quiet room alot more this year with the library being nosey as feck cos of the building work.
