    RIP :(

Good to see though he a long life; I always loved the Brigadier - who didn't! - and it's a shame he never had a wee cameo in the new series. Even so, he was always happy to reprise his role in all those audio productions & was a treat to hear his dulcit tones :D

Aww no, that's terrible. I have always been a big fan. The Brigadier had great chemistry with the Doctor, especially with Pertwee. Let's not forget that Courtney has graced the show from the early Hartnell days and has appeared with six incarnations and more again if you factor in the audios. Nobody else has done that.

I'm glad he did the guest star role in The Sarah Jane Adventures. It was good that he left on a high.

Ah another brick in the wall of my childhood falls to the ground. He and Jon Pertwee were a great duo.

Heard this around noon today and was saddened. Had always been a big fan of the Brig, and of Nick Courtney. To just put it in perspective he is, along with Sarah Jane Smith, the only real regular character in the show apart from The Doctor (and arguably the Tardis herself). A very much loved character indeed, although in the light of today some of the Brig's comments regarding women looked very much of their time (sixties/seventies) but his heroic and unflappable nature made him a hero of mine for the show.

As for Nick Courtney, he supported the show during the lean years, appearing in fan films and was one of the first to be on board for the Big Finish Audios and the BBC Pertwee Radio Broadcasts of the 1990's. Indeed, it was only because he thought Courtney was involved that brought Tom Baker back to do the wonderfull Hornets Nest series of CD's two years ago. Sadly, Nick was too ill to do them (which was the first I heard of his illness) and the brig was replaced instead by another stalwart of the Pertwee years in Capt Mike Yeats, played by Richard Franklin.

Thankfully through the rich collection of Pertwee years DVD's we can cherish the Brig along with his cameo stories with Davidson and McCoy and finally in the SJA's. I know my two boys who love the Brig will be very upset by the news because heros never die, but we can ensure this old soldier's memory will ever fade away.

    RIP.

I too used to use screen names based around the Brigadier. On checking up Nicholas Courtney was the only actor to act against the first eight Doctors. Always seemed a gentleman too. What a legend.

Just heard this now on reading this thread. I loved the character of the Brigader, he was one of the hooks that got my younger easily confused self into "that show where the main fella keeps changing..." RIP :(
