Berties little loose ends

I was an avid Lost fan, I loved it so much I didn't even mind the unanswered questions, the new story arcs that would emerge as if to wipe the old ones and all the loose ends contained within from memory. But Lost was fantasy sci-fi, entertaining and well shot and like i said i loved it so i could forgive it its loose ends. FF i do not love, and in politics I do not accept loose ends.

So Bertie has left politics, retired with a stocky pension. Where does this leave his tax compliance issue? He left without ever having gotten his tax clearance certificate sorted. Revenue have been 'dealing' with this case for 4 years? Is it now pointless, is it just dropped? Does he have to retrospectively prove anything?

Secondly, Mahon is almost a year overdue in his report. Is it cynical to think it was postponed until after the election and after Bertie left politics? What repercussions will his findings have now when they can't even cost him his seat? It seems that when FF stalwarts are 'distanced' from the party (by the party), the remaining members act as if they never existed. Cowan is still Taoiseach yes? Where has he been? Locked in a box somewhere? He is being erased from the FF fold, a new story arc is being used to distract us from the loose ends of the last one.
