    Folks

I'm looking for a Glock tool for the loan/rent/lend/use of.

I got a new set of sights for my Glock 22 and I need to lamp the sight in place and also any Tips on installation of fore sight as it seems to be a very tight fit.

    You need:
    1] A plastic drift punch [2] a mallet [3] a bigger mallet [4] a bit of patience [5] a tube of loctite red thread locker.:D
Thats pretty much all the tools required to change out the sights ,be they target or tri dot.
It looks a spooky job to do,but just take your time. The rear sight is extremly tight in there, but it will shift with a good peening on both sides of the dovetail. The tool is nice, and I ran all over the place looking for one about four years ago to do mine.I eventually went the mallet and punch route and did the job myself as no one had one to loan, and I wasnt paying stupid money for one either ,once I could muster the courage to do it.That tool you have piccd there is about 175USD
and unless you are doing alot of sight changes is it really worth it??
When you are putting the new site back in make sure you have plenty of thread locker in the grove, again time and patience, and maybe a piece of leather to protect the sight from marring,as thats what happened to mine.Hammer slipped off the punch and hit the dove tail and put a nice mark on it.:( Nothing some parkerising will sort out one day.

The front sight.,good if it is tight going in or out.Check that it isnt loctited in the hole, mine was a micro clip that snapped into place inside the slide. It was replaced with a micro screw/bolt affair that holds the fore sight, which isnt that great IMO.
Either should come out easy enough though.,
    Hope this helps.
    Grizz

They are the Truglo type and say not to Hammer

The Fore sight will not fit fully and the rear sight is as tight as a nuns knicke*s

I have both sights off and the new ones half on rear and 1/4 on fore.

On teh fore sight I was considering putting it into the freezer to shrink it a tau that might get her in as it seems a very tight fit.

The rear site, I have no mallet to hand.
I also could do with a second pair or even third to hold the slide, Punch and mallet!

Are yours the Truglo one's ??

Mine are Trijicontritium, not true glo,but the same principle.Tritium in small vials. When they mean dont hammer, they mean like dont start wearing away with a 10lb rock sledge hammer. Some peole will do that no doubt out of fustration, which in car or gun repair gets you nowhere.Best to put down tools and go away and come back later to finish it out.

The rear sight being that tight is normal,I had that as well,so dont worry on that point.Better too tight than too loose.Finish off one at a time, and I'd do the rear first. You have got it in a half sofar.Keep doing what you were doing to get her seated.Just slower and gentler. It took me a good hour to get mine seated properly to exactly as I wanted it.
BUT Go away and buy yourself first the right tools as well for a start.A plastic/brass faced hammer is a good investment for gun work anyway,as are a set of drift punches,or a set of very rigid hard plastic rods which make exellent non marring punches.Any good tool/garage supply house should have those.

The front sight is an odd one tho.It usually is a dual clip that snaps into position under the slide once it is thru the hole. Can you get it back out of the hole??Or is it a bolt and tapped thread affair? In that case it might be able to twist it in by finger pressure with a drop of oil?.Dont force anything obviously. For the pig iron,it might be worth freezing it and see if it shifts,be intresting to see?

Yeah it is fiddley too,but once it is started it becomes easier. If you can get a wooden table and an old style ink desk blotter or white work mat.You can lay the slide on its side and tap away,or invest in a set ol Lidil Quick C clamps.Great yokes for holding things rigidly to a desk or workbench. Can be got somtimes in Euro shops for a fiver for various sizes.

Let me know how you get on?

    Will do.

People in bed her so I would be murdered if I started hammering at this hour of the night.

I might put the foresight in teh fridge as steel contracts ~10 to the -9 per degree C lowered (we really need the mods to update the reply options to include math formulas)

Cooling to -19 of the Deep Freeze might get me that tau or two required to get the fore sight through the slot.(time being of the essence)

It slots through teh hole then there is a small scre that tightens it in place.

I have to thank FISMA for getting me in all this Hardship :D:D

That and a nice new Remington Hoodie ;)

I am spoiled as when I am in work we have a tool for everything, but when i am at home my tools are limited.
I have some tools, just need a few thousand more!!

Is the front sight a threaded post and nut or expanding clips you push through?

I have HiViz sight on mine - for the rear sight I lY the slide on it's side and tapped Away with punch and brass hammer til it looked right, then shot it benchrest and repeat until on at 25m
then I tried it at 50m and it was dead on

marked the point on one side of sight, knocked em back oout, apllied the loctiteand tapped em back in to the mark - was also a retaining screw so drop of loctite in there and tighten it down

thousands of rounds later no drift

It has a screw fore the fore sight, but the fore sight needs to be in place before it is tightened up.

    Hi Tac,

I did mine a couple of years ago, Sevigny comp sights. Used a brass punch. But, I did have to stone the base of the sight, try, re-stone, try again. Once I got the sight in just shy of 1/2 way, the brass punch did the rest. Took a bit of time, but work slowly and you'll manage it. Also Dawson have a video on youtube that is very good.

PM me if you want to know more.

A fellow Boards member has offered a loan of his rear sight adjuster.

I'm more concerned at the Front sight.
it seems to be the exact size of the hole.
I don't want to remove any material as it could damage it.

I'll try a bit of WD40 on on it perhaps either, once it is in a screw holds it in place.

Even the sights half on look way better than the factory sights.

I appreciate their is a comp on Sunday.
However I will only be getting into bed @ 8am so that rules the comp out for me.

I hope to be able to attend a few Fun Shoots this year as soon as my exams are finished.

Spare time is precious at the moment.

When I get them on I'll post a pic

The base of front sight on mine, if I recall, was oval shaped, and fit into the slot on the slide. It was then held in place with a hex head screw. Is your front sight too large for the slide slot?

It is Oval, teh slot is oval but it appears to be a shade big.

Could be a slight burr on it though.
I need a magnifying glass to be sure (eyesight not the best :o)

I do remember having to use some wet and dry (1000 grit, it was what I had to hand) and sanding the oval dimple. It was barely enough to remove the black coating, and it fit like a glove then. I then used loctite red on the screw thread and in the slot, and it hasn't budged since.

I'll get some loctite in work.
It looks a much better foresight than the Plastic glock one.

A dealer once dropped the slide on me and dinged the foresight.

I look forward to getting it ready and punching some paper

Does anyone knock skittles any more?
    That was great fun :D

Yeah, the Glock factory sights are really cr@p. The difference my Sevigny sights made to my shooting was amazing. Plus they're a gazillion times more sturdy :D.

That is tiny. You wouldn't want to let it fall or you would never find it again :D
The smallest I have is 6mm here

I used a trick from work to get screw/bolt in.
It is relatively tight, will tighten before use.

Rear sight, I will use a clamp on Sunday as I'm afraid i might slip with the Mallet and punch and damage something
