Just wondering is it still worth going up north to do a bit of shopping? At the minute its 84pence to a euro. Im in two minds about it, not sure whether to just go to dublin or to go to newry/belfast. I would be shopping in the likes of TopShop, River Island, Dorothy Perkins etc..

Just want opinions to see what yee think? What would yee do in my situation? Go to dublin or head up north? Obviously I want to get the most clothes out of my money so be honest!! Thanks :)

There's still quite a gap between prices from pound to euro in Topshop. Even with the UK VAT increase, there's savings to be made, especially if you have a student card. There's a massive Topshop in Belfast, but the one in Newry is a bit crap. You'd need to factor in the cost of getting up there, and if you were staying the night.

You could just buy online at sterling prices.

yep my friend buys everything online from d.perkins and then if it does fit she just changes it in her local store, take about 5days to come from when she orders and delivery charge is 5euro

Definately worth it I go twice a year for a big shop. I usually head up to banbridge for the outlets (which unlike outlets down here have about 70% off not 20%!) as the surf shops and underwear shops are just brilliant.

Then I head back to newry for the two shopping centres which are across the road from each other. They don't open til 12 or 1 on a Sunday so go early enough to get parking.

Everything is cheaper, staff in my experience are really friendly. I refuse to give a penny to the likes of river island or top shop or miss selfridge down here - if you are brazen enough to cover up sterling prices in order to fleece people in euro you are not getting my money down here! Drink is also cheaper in the off licences or in sainsburys.

Going out is very cheap If you go up the night before a meal out and drinks costs way less than here there is a lovely place in newry called Bellinis

I also shop a lot on line new look website is great prices and not too dear delivery to ireland plus fast delivery they let you buy in sterling so you get a good rate

Not sure if there is that much of a difference anymore...certainly in terms of clothes shopping. I find the choice a bit limited in the outlets over the border to be honest...

Maybe go that but further North and spend the day in Belfast, I have friends that go up quite a bit, haven't been in a few years myself to be honest but I used to love heading up for the day\night ( there is definitely a big gap in hotel\eating\drinking prices)

Stay away from Newry, absolute kip! Useless for clothes shopping. Would recommend buying online too.

You should look further than Newry TBH. I live at the border at Derry and it's great for clothes shopping! There is a hugh difference in price and I've always shopped north, even before the recession and found there is great deals to be had!

Junction 1 is also great, been there a few times and would highly recommend it! I got my last bottle of clinique foundation up there for €16!

at this time of economic crisis we shouldn't be shopping up north for the sake of saving a couple of euro!

People have a right to shop anywhere they want.
If there are savings to be made, then why wouldn't you take them? A couple of euro might be a lot to some people.

I go to uni in Belfast and now there are certain shops I won't shop in down south because of the way they convert their prices. It's unreal how much more expensive some things are in the south!

Went to Lisburn on Wednesday always found it better than Newry, not the bargains that there used to be but it's a day out and the new road makes it a handy drive
