Is this a serious problem?

I've an '06 focus and it's great, the only problem is that when on full lock (both directions) while stationary or low speeds the power steering develops a squeaking noise.
Is it a belt or something more serious?

    Thanks!

Sounds normal. POwer steering will usually kick up a bit of a fuss if held at full lock. It should be silent if held at just less than full lock though.

If its alittle loud overall, you could try turning it from lock to lock a few times as this would remove air from the system

As per mickdw, it is normal for a power steering system to make more noise when on full lock. It might be no harm to check the power steering fluid level just to be sure.

I had this from day 1 with my 2005 Focus (I bought it in 2008).

Brought it back to the (main) dealer and asked. They looked and said all was fine. No problems 60,000 miles later.

I'd have it checked during your next service at a competent garage or dealer, to be sure, but it's probably nothing.

Thanks everyone, it seems to have stopped now but I'll get it checked just to be sure.
