New Poll for the Indo: FF 14, FG 38, Lab 20, SF 11, GP 1, Ind 16

    Irish Independent MillwardBrownLansdowne poll: FF 14 -2 FG 38 +1 Lab 20= GP 1= SF 11 -1 Ind 16 +2

All of the changes are within the margin of error. Nevertheless the trend is clear - FF is going nowhere and have had a terrible campaign. Labour also had a very poor campaign given their poll figures just a few months ago.

For whatever reason, FG have had the best campaign and there's a clear shift towards them.

    Independents will do very well.

Gilmore and Burton really messed things up for Labour.

Like most people I'd say, I'm going to wait for the results on Saturday to actually believe that FF scores less than 20% of the first preference vote.

    It really is unbelievable.

Labour's decision to go easy on FG from the outset was not a wise one.

When FG predictably started getting hostile towards Labour, Labour responded but were reactive.

I was thinking the same, I think a sizeable number of those polled may be too embarrassed to admit that they still support and intend to vote for FF, possibly so that they can avoid a followup question about why they intend voting this way. I expect that when the first preference votes are counted on Saturday, FF may be the only party to have performed significantly better than they have in the opinion polls, but whether that translates into seats is another thing.

Labour were exposed with the 2 way debate on TV3. Since then, Lab have been in trouble. The best thing Enda did for himself and FG was not to show up that night.

Exactly. This says it all about the Fianna Failure mentality - you would think it is a football team that you support through thick and thin, no matter how badly they do. It's not, it's the freakin' government of the country and people will die and have died already due to their epic mismanagement and corruption. This is deadly serious.

The fact that people know they have been rubbish and have ruined us and yet they will still vote for them is a shocking indictment of those voters. They clearly have very flexible consciences, like Bertie Ahern and Charles Haughey.

That FF figure is too low, I sadly reckon it's about 25%.

Still a lot of duelling banjos gombeen inbred muppets up and down the country who would push a child out in front of an articulated lorry if FF told them it was "in de nashnel intrest".

I'm just glad this f***ing farce is nearly over so that those of us with qualifications and potential can do our bit to vote out FF, and then get the f*** off this island before it implodes under the other gombeen party.

    Also I hope I'm wrong.

Idiots that voted for FF in 2007, have now switched allegiance to FG in large numbers, as the FG party, is right wing in outlook, but will doom this nation in the future. Thanks again for that former FF Supporters!

FFailure used to do quite well in Dublin, and Dublin provided us Bertie Ahern and his brothers, and Charles Haughey. Plus Brian Lenihan. Micheal Martin is from Cork. Let's not pretend that FFailure are exclusively a rural problem.

When I said "up and down the country" I meant the whole country, not just the land outside the Pale.

I'd not forgotten Bertie & the Drumcondra Mafia I can assure you.

Yes, because anything that isn't left wing = DOOM.

Tell that that to the Soviet Union. And North Korea. And Albania. And East Germany. And Vietnam.

Hopefully we can avoid trashing our economy with right-wing policies the way the US did in the 20th Century...

P.S. Only in Ireland could FG be regarded as threateningly right-wing. Most of them would get thrown out of the Tory party in the UK for their lefty leanings.

I would be shocked if Fianna Fáil score below 20%.

I think there will be people who have ticked the FF box their whole lives and will tick it again regardless, because it's been the tradition etc etc.

Only time will tell. I think people full of fire for FF will still tick the fecking box out of some freakish sense of pride in their party and a hope of better things to come. Not everyone, just the die hards.

Cant see them getting less than 20 seats.

That's what I thought too. The true solution to our economic problems is in the SF manifesto...but it must be in code because I'm ****ed if I can find it in there.

Agreed. This is what happened in the 1992 UK election. They called it the Shy Tory Factor. I think the exact same thing is happening here.

It's clear the drift in Labour's vote has been halted and FG are not getting an overall majority nor will the Independents give them power either. Hopefully this will continue until Friday at 10pm.

    Why?

Trade unions are the largest social organisation in the country.

Why are ULA lumped in with Independant in all polls? They are on target to pick up minimum of 4 seats, hopefully at least that. What will they have to do to be considered in these polls rather than lumped with "other". They are on target to pick up more seats than the Greens yet get no recognition.
