Analogue TV in Wales was switched off last March from the final two main transmitters and their relays.

Digital TV or set top box will be required.

Lots of discussion here on the boards at that time if you do a search.

Avoca village was served by a local deflector above the avoca mines that uses deflect presely into the valley.
I presume it's turned off now.
No welsh reception is possible in the village or surrounds because of the terrain unless you live on higher ground that has a sea view.
Presely works fine up around avondale closer to Rathdrum mind you so perhaps works in areas in between.

Satelite is the way to go if in the village.

If your relative lives on the beech road between Arklow and avoca-then most of that road should have perfect presely or arfon reception as it's high and has a good view out to sea.
In that case a ste top box mpeg 4 comatible would be needed or an mpeg4 tv.
There are many threads here if you search.
