I have a VW Golf 2002. Recently I've noticed that when I lock tightly in either direction there is a short springy sound (as if a spring has been plucked) from the front drivers side wheel. It doesn't happen every time, just occasionally. Anybody got any ideas what it could be? I think it might have something to do with the suspension seen as it's a springy sound. Thanks

Jack up the side of the car that you think the noise is there and make sure the spring isn't broken. The best bet is get thee to an indy mechanic if you're not mechanically minded.

I'm fairly sure I'd have a front spring lying around for free if that is the case.

Is it a kinda knocking noise? It could be the CV joint.

Either a broken spring as mentioned above or a seized top shock mount.

I doubt its a broken spring you would notice that in day to day driving ( at least i hope you would) its almost certainly the top mount, better of replacing the pair i.e each side, the part itself costs very little but fitting is time consuming.Depending on mileage condition of car you might consider replacing the 2 front shocks at same time.
