It's big. And by that i mean physically it's big, you wouldn't be carrying that around in your pocket. And it needs to be plugged in (to the wall) for power.

I'd get a small portable drive, you should be able to find a 500GB version for cheap enough.

Depends on how "portable" you want it to be...
If you're happy to just have that permanently set up at a desk or whatever, then it'd be ideal.
If you want something you can easily take with you anywhere without having to worry about size or finding an extra plug socket for it, go for the passport range...

yeah better off getting a portable hdd like the WD 500gb for 55.00 on Amazon or the buffalo 500gb is about 45.00

I have bought both and they are nice and neat, not much bigger than an iphone, well a bit wider but still small and portable with no need for a plug socket!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Passport-Essential-Portable/dp/B002KPW5IS/ref=sr_1_10?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1298717615&sr=1-10

That's the WD 500GB for £55. I have it & would recommend it. If you need more space there are 750GB and 1TB versions.
