Beach resort near Bangkok?

    hey all,

Bringing the parents to Thailand in April for 2 weeks. I have everything planned apart from 2 nights where we'll be based in Bkk and are hoping to head to a beach or island for 2 nights. No more than 2 - 3 hours from the city would be ideal.

My parents are easy going and a clean beach hut would do the job once the beach was clean and there wasn't too much seedy stuff going on! A choice of restaurants and bars nearby would be great.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Some specific accommodation options would be really helpful!

    Thanks :D

p.s also open to a villa rental to sleep 5? tks :)

Ko Samet is less than 3 hours from Bangkok.
Its nice and laid back with great beaches.

Pattaya has the closest beach and is an hours taxi from the airport, but to be honest its not a place you would want to be bringing your parents.

According to my knowledge Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort, Big Blue Diving, Cha Da Beach Resort and Shangri-La are best resorts near Bangkok. Personally I suggest Koh Chang is very nice and amazing beach resorts in Thailand. Best for Relaxation and Enjoyment.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I think that koh Chang is a bit far considering we only have 2 days. Does anyone know where to stay on koh samet? All reviews apart from the real high end resorts are crap!

We'd love some clean huts on a quiet beach which won't break the bank. Anyone know what the best beach is or the best area to focus my search?

    cheers :)

I've stayed in Hua Hin for a few nights and that was lovely. That was about ten years ago though.

We stayed in a motel built on a wooden pier fishermen used to use ffor drying out squid. It was quirky and basic, but clean and had aircon, tv etc and was close to some of the best fish restaurants I have ever been to.

I've stayed in two places in Pattya, one just hotel just outside, which was really nice, the other, the Skaaw Beach, was the seediest place I have ever been to.

It's a shame really, because Pattya has some really good non girlie bars and some top restaurants. If you took away the fat middle aged European sex tourists it would be a really nice resort.
