Do you think that these independent travel agents are needed anymore. It is so easy to book and find out about places on line, are they really needed? If so, why?

Well I don't understand your point, If an independent travel agent is making enough money to survive why would they close?

Yes online booking has become increasingly popular, but many still choose to book through Travel agents.

I suppose I should rephrase the question. Would travel agents be hugely effected by how easy and cheap it now is to book online. If there was a travel agent to open tomorrow, would it stay in business or are travel agents, like movie rental stores, being phased out and are going to be non-existent in a few years.

I think there will always be a need. Not everyone is comfortable booking their own travel. Hell, I have a friend who wouldn't be able get a bus without someone doing all the research for him!

I think the glut of closures we saw in 2009/10 is probably all there will be for the time being. People like the convenience.

I have booked with travel agents in recent years when going without booking way in advance as it can actually be cheaper. Went to tenerife easter last and flights alone were more expensive booking independantly then a week long package was.

I normally arrange everything myself but your better off checking both.

Agree with Balmed Out. I always check both and frequently an agent can find a cheaper holiday quicker. So theyll keep going while they can do that.

they have uses- we're looking for a family holiday so want near beach, nice hotel/apt etc.
They can do a lot of research and know where's good etc.
