    Hi
I'm looking to get few idea of car model. Year 2004 to 2006. 1.4 to 1.7 engine size.
I'm looking for a long hachback or a short estate with a fold flat back sit.
One that would allow me to throw a bike in the back, or sleep in it, I'm not really tall.
I'm would like the car to be around 4360 in length.
At the moment I have Citroen C4, Ford focus... but there are a bit on the short side.

Why bother with a single when you can have a King?

OP is there a reason the lenght of the car is restricted?

I presume he'll need space for a wardrobe too that's why I said single bed. He also mentioned the bike, king size bed, wardrobe and bike won't fit unless It's an estate.

At a guess I'd say anything longer wont fit in his garage.

Skoda Fabia Estate is 4220 long and comes in a 1.4 Petrol Variety.

Only other thing I could think of would be this :D

You might laugh but a Citroen Berlingo appears to hit all your requirements. Also the Fiat Dobolo or the Renault Kango would be useful mini vans.

They have a small road presence but big on available space.

Pipe and Slippers man will be along shortly to dismiss that car as "dirt" ;)

60 bhp from a 1.4 is dirt territory.

Camping at races? I've been able to sleep in the back of my 206 while I had the bike chained up to the chassis of the car.

Honda Jazz, fecking great little car. Fold the back seat down and you'd fit a double mattress in the back (
    haven't actually tried this
). Rock solid reliable too. Highly impressed by them.

If the roles were reversed and RoverJames made a similar comment about you, you'd be having a hissy fit. I'd appreciate it if you kept your posts constructive instead of posting rubbish.

I often slept in one of these, and I'm not short!

    Alternatively, how about this?

I did once fit a single bed and mattress into the back of my estate lying flat, but the boot wouldn't close all the the way. :(

I'm with the people suggesting a small van, for space and because it would be darker and easier to sleep in. I'm still a little confused about how to tax/insure/DOE/NCT a commercial vehicle these days tho.

A commercial kia sorento will take somebody up to 6'2" in height leaving another inch or so for movement , (optional shorter lady friend not included) :D

Skoda Octavia makes me drop off...must be good to sleep in...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭waxon-waxoff

Most cars including estates will allow you to fold the seats down but the floor wont be completely flat so it'll be uncomfortable. You can sleep in any car though if you are tired enough, but you feel like crap the next morning

Ive thought about this before as i cant afford a camper but would like some of that freedom during summer. Best way is to get a van, lots of space for gear and sleeping. The only problem is paying for a vehicle that may be rarely used.

Just be careful when sleeping in a van, I wont go into too much detail but somebody died recently when the slept in the back of their van at a Motorsport event. They had used sheets to stop the drafts coming in the windows/vents and subsequently died.

I'll second this. A few years ago my cousin suffocated after falling asleep in his car with the heating on. Really stupid way to go. :(

I slept in the back of my DC2 Integra (after Graham B18C locked me out of the place we were staying ) and it was fine apart from the bitter cold. I'm about 6ft and quite fat. If you can sit in a car you can sleep in it

    I can't ban mods of motors :(

In all fairness the car was comfortable, I couldn't start it because I was pished and didn't want to get myself into trouble so I opened it and then hid the key outside the car, apart from the cold I was comfortable

I found sleeping in the back seat of a car very uncomfortable but I slept a few times in the back of the Fiesta van I had for a while after night's on the beer and once you had a quilt to keep warm its was actually fairly comfortable. It also had the advantage of having a heavily tinted back window so you could sleep away unnoticed.

Its a good idea to leave a tiny bit of a window open too stop everything fogging up and getting stuffy though.
