Discovery TD5 starting problem

My TD5 Discovery refuses to start sometimes. The battery isnt a problem, I could turn the key in the ignition and it doesn't even turn over. I rechecked the starter motor connections and that seemed to solve it for a while. I could turn the key 5 or 6 times and nothing would happen but then she would start no problem another time? Anyone experience this? Is it a sign the starter is on the way out?

Also has anyone changed a TD5 fuel pump? Mine is giving out a higher pitched whine so it could be nearing the end soon.

It's possibly the starter on the way out, bit of a weak point on the Td5 but check relay 2 in the engine fusebox is sending power to the starter, should hear it click or use a meter on the red wire to the starter.

Fuel pump is easy in a D2, if you lift the rear carpet you'll find a cover that can be removed for access to the pump. Be careful with the snap connectors and don't get any dirt in there. Only get a genuine pump, generic ones don't last.

Commonly the rear floor is rotten in the Disco's and the fuel pump cover can be removed with no tools:D
