Anyone have any experience of using the likes of dremel etc for woodworking, specifically in the round carving?

Looking to pick one up and just looking for opinions on brands and models.

    All info welcome!

I know on Instructables and the like the Dremel seems to be the one. They sell Dremels now in B&Q and at least in the Galway branch they have a little stand where you can see the various models and all the fittings and attachments. Now I haven't used one myself but I'd love to get one if I could justify the cost.

i've a dremel, to be honest i don't use it half as much as i thought i would. they're grand for very intricate work but you need to have the right tips on them and know how to use em.

Hmm, I'll have a think on it so. I suppose the best thing would be if a neighbour or something had one that I could borrow for a day or so to try out.

What prompted the query was an email from amazon saying they have a sale on them!

    Cheers for the input.

Ditto, I use mine for more intricate stuff with wood/glass, but they lack torque. Trying one out beforehand would definitely be worthwhile if you can get your hands on one.

There's a 20 euro one coming up in Aldi in a few weeks. Don't think much of their electrical stuff but it might be worth a look.

They good then? I've been mulling over picking one up for carving. Where'd you get it? I haven't seen anything except what looks to be shoddy knockoffs in the likes of Maplins and B&Q etc.

ye incredible! was €100 for the cordless model, the 8000 not the quick charge 8200 but it may be possible to get the quick charger. there are a good few bits with it, not suitable for heavy material removal for carving so I got 2 other bits which are good.

I almost got the corded model for €40 less which is only slightly less powerful and IMO comes with a much better case but what I love about the cordless model is just picking it up and doing something quickly with it, no extension leads etc. I cleaned some of the grout in my bathroom really quickly just as a test as I was walking around the house, no need for plugs etc.

Where'd you buy it though? I haven't seen any reputable brands in the B&M around dublin.
