Do Dublin Bus drivers annoy you?

I hate (most) Dublin Bus drivers - not only for their inability to stick to their timetable and for nearly always making me late, but when they try to show you who's boss I start to get hacked off with them.

When the fare went up five cent a few weeks ago, a driver starting giving me aggro coz I didn't have an extra 5 cent on me after I already put in what I though was the right amount, he then gave me a refund ticket and told me to get off the bus, all that over 5 cent.

Then today another driver had a go at me when I was getting off the bus saying he remembered what stop I got on and how much I payed and that I should have got off at the stop before.

Honestly, will these guys actually get sacked or given a pay-cut just coz someone got off the bus a stop after their ticket told them to?

I actually think the fare is too much for the $h1tty service that's provided!

That has nothing to do with drivers

In work some people take things personally. If they reckon a customer is trying to be clever or get one over them, it can be taken as a bit of an insult.
The driver knew your fare, your stop, the end stage number so they are competent. And don't like customers thinking they don't notice

Management set the rules but you're blaming the driver who enforces them

Would you ever complain to Dublin Bus then

Not on buses. Only on Boards.ie.

    I'm joking.:D

Oh boo hoo!!! I wasn't pulling a fast one, I was on a route I'd never been on before and the ticket said I was to get off at stop X but I got off at stop Y (as that was the one I was meeting someone at), call the police why don't you!!!

And if I went into a shop and was served by someone with a face like a slapped arse, I would have a bad opinion of them aswell, why are precious bus drivers immune to any critisism?

I'm not getting worked up, I laughed at the driver, believe it or not but most people would have told him to F off, I only just asked if drivers annoy some people, but you had to start acting as their protector. And I said I hate MOST drivers ie the 90% who have bad attitudes with commuters

No, first I was thinking of protesting outside their HQ until justice is done.... Jeez is nobody allowed a negative opinion around here?

Does nobody act on their negative opinion out there? - that's the only way your issue will be addressed.

They drive me mad, a small few are alright, but as for those ones who go on about a measly few cent, but then again having to drive around all day back and forth with hardly any communication would piss me off too.

One time a driver wouldn't let a child on coz it was a minute after the time the school fare finishes, now the child wasn't a scumbag or anything. I just thought what if anything happened him on the way home? I mean he might have been waiting ages on a bus, coz lets face it, when is Dublin Bus ever on time?

Much prefer the LUAS, always frequent, you can pick your destination, therefore no trouble with paying the wrong fare and no contact with and drivers. It would be good if one day the LUAS or even this METRO will be the king of transport in Dublin and all the buses will be gone, but that's just wishful thinking.

The OP said he got off the bus one stop after the ticket said and that he paid five cent less without realising, on the day the fare went up.

There are scumbags who bunk on the bus and hassle all the people upstairs who get less mouth from drivers.

    Get a life FFS!!

Do you go into Dunnes or Tesco and hand over 11.50 when the checkout clerk says the total is 12.00 quid. no i didnt think so, you pay the full amount and dont even consider thrash talking to them.

So you admit to paying the wrong fare. Are you aware that paying the incorrect fare amounts to stealing a service. It the same as shoplifting.

Dublin bus services have been cut, drivers made redundant, buses sold and more cuts no doubt in the pipeline. Why? because the company is losing money. There are hundreds of thousands of trips taken per week on DB so if even 10% are stealing part of their journey all those 5cents add up.

lol I would hardly call it hassle, I found it rather funny that the drivers got all pissed off. It will add a bit of drama to their boring day. Why don't they do their job properly and kick little assholes off the bus when they start tormenting everyone upstairs???

Anyway, I will have my car by next Thursday, so I won't need the 'service' of peasant wagons anymore.

Well I've left for an earlier bus butthey still don't arrive on time, but thankfully I won't need buses after next week

No detective, I never admitted to paying the wrong fare, I was on a bus route I have never been on before, and was meeting someone as soon as I got off, when I got off the bus the driver started shouting his autority around the place saying I was to supposed to get off the stop before, so no detective I wasn't trying to pull a fast one.

And I don't shop at Dunnes or Tesco, it's M & S and Brown Thomas for me, if I went into a shop and they gave me a price I would pay it no problem, if I ever get the LUAS or DART I pay the exact fare, as it's told to you before hand, I'm not used to getting peasant wagons so just didnt know the fare...

And I don't class it the same as shoplifting, as that is premeditated, getting off ONE stop later was not actually my intention.

Boo Hoo! Well, if they go bust, it won't bother me as I drive and wont need them after next week. I couldn't care less about how it affects other commuters

Oh and just another reminder, I wasn't actually stealing, so i hope you are not a real detective as you would probably arrest someone for littering while someone else is getting murdered!

A driver's job is, primarily, to drive. While some will deal with crowd control, if they do, they are largely on their own.

Exactly but the drivers are too scared to say anything to mouthy teens, they pick on the guy with the posh voice! A bit like the creeps on here, they are all so mouthy behind their keyboards but wouldn't say boo to a goose outside, thats if they ever leave their empty bedsits or the bridges they live under.

Oh will you get off your high horse, someone didn't know about the fare increases on the day they increased - all because they were barely advertised only a week before they came into effect - and didn't know the exact technicalities of their fare when going somewhere on a bus they hadn't gone on before.

Boo-hoo, big deal. I'm sure journeys like that only make up about 5% of total journeys, so it's not like DB are losing all that much from them anyway.

But I will agree that some drivers can just be downright rude and no help at all.

Cityboi, you really do sound like some posh twat. "Peasant mobile", oh dear, if must have been so embarrassing having to get the same mode of transport as the lower classes, you affluent gent sir.

Stating where you shop just to sound better? Please, it sounds pathetic. You sound very insecure about your wealth status, don't worry, we're all jealous. What surprises me is considering how wealthy, posh and affluent you are, how in the time your car was getting fixed you couldn't have gotten a rental car?

Well, reading the OP, assuming that his story of not having the 5c was actually on the day of the increase or within the next couple of days, then the reaction of the driver was quite despicable.
As I mentioned, advertising of the new fare increases was done on a very minor scale within a very short timeframe of it happening, at least from my view. So it's only understandable that people won't be aware of it and will attempt to pay the old fare.
It's a bit of a transitioning period and people need to re-learn what the fare is, so jumping at someone for not having the 5c is one thing, but allegedly giving them a refund ticket for the amount they put in and kicking them off for not having it because they weren't informed well enough is pretty downright low.

yes chris it is ,if thats what actually happened. as usual we're only getting the O.P.'s side of the story. T.B.H. something somewhere doesn't sound right and i dont think we're being told the full picture. drivers only give refunds tickets like that in extreme circumstances and thats when the passenger is being abusive or acting in a threatening manner. we'd give a refund ticket like that just to get them off the bus. also it's worth noting. in the O.P's own words his run-ins with bus drivers are not isolated.
. i think this just sums it up really.

Perhaps the OP is defensive because you've all had a go at him just for having a bad day, i've spoke to City Boi on here in the past and he always seems nice, and you're contradicting yourself by saying you're polite to people who are polite to you. The OP didn't start having a go at you until you and your cronies started! And yeas the rise of fare prices was poorly advertised!
