Generally a support says "attack me here, it's my weak spot" to the opposition :D

I have damage to the cartilage on the back of my knee cap that appears more complicated than the standard case according to my physio. Got an open knee cap support to hold my knee cap in the right place without putting pressure on it on www.irishfit.eu - had it in two days. There are LOADS of different types of supports though, for every joint. Did your doctor tell you what type to get?

I'd go to a sports physio and ask - he or she should be able to give you a recommendation as it might depend on what side of the joint needs protection. You might also get some good exercises to strengthen the joint as well.

I've had quite a few knee injuries, some serious, some not so.

If serious or not getting better, don't trust a doctor or physio on their word, they can only guess based on symptoms (I made that mistake, resulted in a ruptured crutiate ligament :( ).

I would strongly recommend getting an MRI (your GP can arrange a letter for this), then can easily check if your ligaments / cartilage are okay etc.

id tore cartilage a few years ago, had the surgery and when i went back playing i bought an open knee support from elverys, never had a problem.

I was very lucky though, a friend of mine did something similar a year later, bought a similar support and ended up doing just as much damage because it wasn't giving him the right support,

difference between him and me was luck, pure and simple, if they do a operation the docs will know the exact damage and will be able to reccommend which type suits you.
