    Hey Guys,

Hope you could help me with this...

I know there is software that is available that allows me to sync a library of music with an ipod on ubuntu but is what i am looking for is the best software that will allow me to take a few albums off an ipod and add a few different albums to an ipod.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Cheers guys.

Basically Apple don't want you to use anything except iTunes. This is from the winamp plugin developer.
If you do get something working never update your firmware, I made that mistake.

Even if it is, the ppa versions of the library will handle all but the very newest firmwares.

got old music off pod no problem, and ripped the discs to the hard drive only problem they are in 'Ogg Vorbis audio' format, is there a easy way to convert them on to mp3 format that gtkpod recognizes at all do ye know?

OGG vorbis is free, good quality and slightly smaller than MP3. They're readable on any OS but rarely on external media players. You should be able to convert them to MP3 (e.g. http://emptybits.com/ogg2mp3) but you might be better off re-ripping from source to avoid losing in quality.

cheers, what program do you use to rip discs to mp3 dude?

I use one called abcde (a better CD encoder). It's a command line util that also defaults to ogg vorbis so you need to change a setting in a text file to rip to mp3.

Whatever tool you used yourself no doubt has a setting for default output, though.

i am using rytham box player and it does not have an option in preferences for mp3 which is a balls. mp2/occ etc but no mp3.
