Joomla question

    Basic question from a Joomla! nOOb. I've installed Joomla on my server space and I've run into a problem when attempting to preview any templates. I think I probably have the incorrect path or some such.

    The root path of my site is:

    mywebsite.com/web

    I placed the folder called joomla in here with all the relevant files.

    so I have /web/joomla/loads of files

    When I go to preview a template the browser path is http://www.mysite.com/joomla/ (that's actually not it, btw)

    No matter what I do to this address I get a blank page. What am I doing wrong?

    I would ask on the joomla forum but it seems to be down at the moment :o

    just a stab in the dark, but it may need to be installed in the directory www.mysite.com/joomla instead of www.mysite.com/web/joomla

    You may have to alter one of the config files for the templates, it looks like it's pointing to mysite.com/joomla instead of mysite.com/web/joomla

    Yeah, I did think of that. I moved the joomla folder out of /web but I couldn't even get into the admin account. Unless I can find the config file and alter it perhaps the best thing to do would be to delete and start again but this time at a level up.

    it could be in the original config file when you setup the paths, but you should be able to change the paths, I haven't used joomla in a very long time, can't remember where to look :P Clean install would probably be handier :P

    sorry, I should have said that my root is mywebsite.com

    I've tried a fresh install to the root but I can't access anything :(

    You change the site Base URL in the configuration.php file - the one you need to change is:

    var $live_site = '';

    Change it to:
    var $live_site = 'http://www.mysite.com/joomla';

    or whatever it's supposed to be.

    At the risk of completely throwing a spanner in the works. I had a similar problem last week. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056177022&referrerid=129114 I couldn't get a template going for the life of me.

    I deleted Joomla and installed WP. But I'll give it another shot as I think that it's a powerful tool.

    Should that be http://www.mysite.com/web/joomla? "web" being the public folder?

    I've had a look at the config file and I can't find anything like you have suggested. No var $ prefixes appear at all.

    I've figured it out. And I'm embarrassed.

    For whatever reason, when I click "view site" it doesn't find the index file. I haven't encountered this on any tutorials so perhaps there remains a problem. However, the simple solution to this is to type in index.php at the end of the address, and not index.html.

    :o
