It would probably be cheaper to find someone heading back to the UK looking for a backload.

The cost of diesel, ferries, renting the truck and insurance etc would be quite steep. Also most rentals will come with box bodies, you will find it harder to find a flat bed and how are you going to get the tractor up on it then?

Where im dropping it off has a loading bay so that would be no probs. Just have a week hols coming up in march so was thinking of doing it myself, just cant see any info on that kinda truck hire.

I'm based in the Northwest and can't think of any hire companies that have a flat bed.

    How big is the tractor?

    You far from the boat?

You could drive it on to the boat and there is often yokes dropped there the far side doing the opposite if what you are doing. One of those trucks could be happy for the backload.

It will be a lot cheaper to drive the tractor on to the boat compared to renting a truck and paying for a return ticket esp when you will be coming back empty

All the ports have those loading facilities like a ramp. OP it will be a lot cheaper to get a haulier to sort it for you. Where are you based??

    Hi Corkie,

Have you tried A1 Van Rental in Cork. I rented a van recently to collect some furniture & I found them extremely helpful. The lady that owns it is Kathleen & very efficient & knows her stuff. They are based in Tramore Road. If she can't help you she will put you in touch with somebody that can. She will go out of her way to help. Best of luck.
