Decorating a reception room.

One of the hotels I'm looking at has a bit of an out dated reception room. Now when chair covers are on & the tables are laid it can look alright.

But I have been thinking about what I could do to jazz it up a bit with minimal cost if I decide to go with this venue.

I was thinking of ordering really small fairy lights & tulle in strips that I could have gathered in the middle of the ceiling & have about 6 or 8 strands of the lighting draping out. Like the picture below.

So do you think the hotel would have any major problem with this?

Or does anyone know where I could get strips long enough to do this?

As I said it's just an idea at the moment.

Have you thought of who would actually do the decorating or when it would be done?

The hotel may have a wedding on the day before yours so may only allow it to be done on the actual day. It may have to be removed the day after the wedding.

Would you have someone to put it up and take it down?

    Loks fab btw! ;)

Well I wouldn't mind putting up the ceiling decoration the day before if it suited another wedding party as it would be too high up to get damaged & they could look after the floor decorations themselves. Same goes for a wedding the day after, again if it suited.

I do have people that could put it up though if it came to it so I suppose I'm lucky in that sense.

I know it looks a bit over the top but we have been to loads of weddings in the venues we're looking at so I suppose I'd like to do something different to the reception rooms.

Sounds like you can manage all this and you have it all worked out! ;)

Have you thought about the power source for the lights? Will the cables to plug them in be visible?

I would imagine the hotel would have concerns from a health and safety perspective if you put the things up yourself. What happens if it falls and injures someone?

Edited to say - the best thing is to speak to the hotel directly about it really.

Be very careful, the health & safety concerns are very genuine in terms of fire risk. There are loads of companies that do this stuff and it would be worth getting a quote before going too far down the DIY route. We're talking to the Chair Cover Company (they do a lot more then chair covers).

That looks like a lot of tulle - have you priced it, I dont see how it could be minimal cost. Fabrics in this country are a rip off - you would need a good few hundred yards of it and the cheapest you would get via google is about 70cent a yard. Hickeys I would be surpised if you would get it for less than 3euro or so.

I would check with the chair covering company - maybe you could rent it for a lot cheaper and add accent colour to match.

The conversation I had with these guys was what looks like tulle is actually a fire retardant industrial decorators fabric!

Another story we heard from a venue wedding planner was about flame proof paper candle holders that a bride brought in and went up in a big fireball!!

I would say you would def have to be careful with health and safety alright. Definitely try and use someone like the Chair Cover Company - probably less expensive than you think. Caterhire in Sandyford have a great range of chair covers, linens, bows etc. I have used them before at functions and found them great.

    Thanks everyone.
I never even thought about health & safety. I'll have a chat with the hotels & see what they think.

Hotel should be fine with this its quite common at hotel weddings now as they are keen for business. Lighting, chairs cover linens can really lift room. for lighting try someone like lightsource.ie or for chairs covers linens caterhire.ie should be able to sort you or point you in the right direction. happy hunting:)
