    GIMP is an open source editor like Photoshop and can be a bit complex.
    But it'll do exactly what you want with a layer mask.

    There's Gimp. There's Microsoft ICE if you're on Windows too

    ICE is a panorama stitcher, it doesn't do what the OP wants.

    In any programme that has layers put the images into a layer each. Use the biggest, softest eraser brush you can and swipe down the top layer, you will get something like that picture. I would use Photoshop but you could use Gimp. The program will not do it automatically, but it is very easy.

    The best way is to use a layer mask and a gradient rather than the eraser. I always try to use non destructive editing methods where possible. Adjustment layers and layer masks make it very easy to maintain control over your work and make changes that would otherwise require you to revert or go hunting through your history.
