HiFi Setup for Turntable

I received a SL1200 turnable as a gift and I I plan to use it for home listening rather than scratching. I was hoping to get a decent amp and speakers for ~€500. I would be setting up the system in a mid size room 4.5m * 5m. Any advise on an amp with a good phono stage and a suitable speaker combo.

I plan to buy a tuner and CD player at a later date. Would it make sense to buy an integrated tuner/amp or will this compromise on quality?
Is their any benefit to using a phono preamp rather than the phono input on an integrated amp?
Also the turntable has a a Shure M44-7 cartridge which I believe is designed for scratching. Would it be advisable to change this to suit my requirements?

    Thanks

Most amps/receivers will have a pre amp built in for phono but worth asking when you are looking at an amp/receiver. You won't lose any noticeable quality by not using an external preamp. Shop around and have a listen to a combo that is within your budget rather than listening to an amp and then speakers connected to a different amp? The cartridge you have is fine for general listening.
Go to the likes of Sevenoaks/Peats/Harvey Norman and have a listen to a few amps/receivers.

Excellent cartridge for the money. I got one recently for a friend from this seller. Excellent service and price. As this cart is quite tall you will need to adjust the vta on the arm accordingly. If you have any hassle let me know. I should be able to help.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I'll probably hold on to the Shure M44-7 cartridge for now and spend more on a good integrated amp.
