    Hi,
    Like the title says. Anyone know of a half decent place to park and camp around Ballyhoura?

    It's in Co. Limerick, isn't it? There should be plenty of halting sites around for you to choose from :D

    I'm afraid I don't know of any camping nearby - but thats not to say there isn't..
    There is a crowd doing self-catering log cabins nearby if thats any good?

    This link from the ballyhouramtb.com site might help.

    Just back from 2 days at one of those admittedly v pleasant and plush log cabins ...they cost an arm and a leg unless youre splitting it 6 ways!Even with a 'Pigsback.com' half price voucher I was grimacing at cost (dearer than a hotel)and the ESB charge for just over 2 days was almost 25 quid!
    Ballyhoura really does seem to be the home of the mountainbike in Ireland though...very professionally coordinated ...mtb's even for sale on the sides of mountains ,hoses to wash your bikes etc etc

    Camp in the forest, wash in the rivers... if you're hard enough. At least the midges haven't surfaced yet.

    Be careful where you park; there used to be a lot of break-ins to cars when the old hillwalking car park was in use, the MTB centre is probably the safest bet.

    the Ballyhoura Way passes nearby, so you could park up and hike along one of the trails (mainly forestry roads) and pick a suitable spot.

    Obviously you'd have to haul grub etc, but there are a few streams in the area for making tae etc.

    The nearest place is in the Glen of Aherloe called Ballinacourty House Campsite and there is a second one close by aswell . Both are a half hour drive from Ballyhoura and due East. Check if they open all year as they may not operate before March. Ballinacourty is top class. Hope this helps. Camped there years ago to ride an XC race in Fermoy.........icicles inside tent......in April!!;)

    I camped in one of them, very good,less than €10, they even had a little kitchenette with a microwave free to use. These places don't open till April though. Check this map meant for roadies (some nice routes BTW ;)) ;

    Campsite is the little triangle shown at Lisvarrinane (just east of), on Loop 2/ 2c

    B&B at Kilmallock is another option.

    Any links for the cabins you stayed in. Planning a trip to Ballyhoura the first week of April. Cheers.
