    Hi,

Just wondering does anyone here have any experience of a wedding on Inishboffin? Its something we're thinking of for late spring/early summer next year. Would love to hear if anyone attended such a wedding or was involved in organising one there.

    Thanks in advance,

    Geri

There is a hotel there, so why not ring up and ask them? another thing to factor is accomadation for your guests in surrounding B&Bs, you might find guest numbers limited. (but that might end up being a blessing in disguise to stop the list spiralling out of control)

Inisboffin I think, comes under the parish of Westport - that is if you are planning a catholic ceremony, so the parish office there where to enquire I think, but if you want a civil service you may need to check as you will need to pay expenses of a registrar - ferry and possible accomadation and meals.

I think the idea of getting married on an island is lovely, hope it works out for you.

    Thanks.

I have been in touch with the hotel and will probably take a trip out there soon to check it out. We're just starting planning now tbh and I'm wondering about the feasailibity of getting married there and if anyone's a good, bad or indifferent experience of weddings there.

A guy I work with got married there about 5 years ago in the local church. They had a ball out there. Great fun going out on a boat to get married. Booked out pretty much all of the accommodation on the island for the weekend. From what I remember he said there was accommodation for 80 on the island (hotel and B&Bs), so it would be good if you wanted to keep numbers down, simply because you won't be able to fit them. No one will be going anywhere and there won't be any trek from one place to another, so very relaxed.

A gang of us from staff were invited to the afters on the following day - I wasn't going as I was away but I remember telling him we were more than welcome but if we were coming that we'd have to bring a tent and camp as there would be no room for us. That would have been good craic!:D

Incidentally the couple go back once a year for a weekend, so they must have had a good time.

Was at a wedding there about two years ago. Absolutely brilliant, the whole wedding party is together on the boat and everyone stays together. Easy to get to know people. Food in the hotel was fab and the view was breath taking. We stayed in a B&B close to the hotel and it was lovely. My sister with a family rented a self catering house. The bride had arranged the accommodation for everyone so it was very relaxing for all the guests. Highly recommend it

Thanks for the feedback!! Great to hear about other weddings there!! We have nothing booked yet but think that this could be fun and something different from the normal Irish wedding. The only thing I'd be worried about would be the weather!!

Will do! Thanks! Didn't fancy waiting that long to get married but dont think it's practical for this year.
