so how does this exactly work ?

was told I'll be paid an hourly rate through the agency, not by the company i'll be working with, so will the agency be continuoly getting a cut from my wages or how does it work ?

you will get the hourly rate you agreed less normal taxes etc. They will have negotiated a rate with the client. The rate they negotiated minus your hourly - employers taxes and any other deductions will be the agency's profit.

Don't agree the the hourly rate if you are not happy with it. Definitely don't moan that they are making afortune on you after you have agreed the hourly.

Correct. You are an employee of the agency, and they will make a profit on you every day that you're placed through them.

The client will also have to pay VAT to the agency, but this usually isn't included in the hourly discussions.

Also, the two agencies I work through pay me holiday pay (8%) at either the end of the year, or the end of each assignment.
